Rudolf Valenta is full Professor for Allergology at the Medical University of Vienna, member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Foreign Adjunct Professor for Allergy at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. He has been working in the field of allergy research for more than 25 years and founded in 1993 his research group, “Molecular Immunopathology”. Prof. Valenta has been awarded several prestigious national and international awards, among them the START Award of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), the International Pharmacia Award and the Sarstedt Award. Rudolf Valenta’s work is highly cited (cumulative citation index: 23.084; h-index: 81); he has published more than 560 original scientific publications, reviews and book chapters, more than 135 patents/patent applications and gave more than 350 invited lectures. He introduced recombinant allergens into diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases and is currently working on mechanisms of allergic diseases, the introduction of new diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive concepts for allergy into clinical use and on the characterization of antigens in infectious diseases with the aim to develop diagnostic tests and vaccines also in this area.
Prof. Valenta and our team have been cooperating for over 4 years in the field of Allergy research, specifically on ragweed-triggered allergic diseases in Western Romania. This fruitful cooperation led to the development of the concept behind INSPIRED project.
